Lighting for the Grote of Catharijnekerk

Create an aesthetic lighting design for the outside of the Grote of Catharijnekerk.

RESULT

Visibility

  • The visibility of the church has been improved by lighting the entrance and the facades. As a result, the area around the church is also indirectly better lit.
  • Replacing the light sources in the lanterns around the church increases the light level from afar.
  • To ensure that the church fits in well with the environment, we have worked with low light levels.

Branding and identity

  • We based the lighting concept on the unique history and function of the church. The church from 1550 has undergone changes over time due to fire and war.

Remarkable

  • The roof turret becomes a striking object that can be seen from afar as it is illuminated from both the inside and the outside.

  • The illumination switches off after 11 p.m. For safety reasons, only the functional lighting remains on. The lighting design is made with LED, which has a long lifespan and low energy consumption.
